Monochrome Through The Decades

As a firm believer in the statement 'fashion always come back into style', when it came to choosing a topic for my Extended Project Qualification at college, I was excited to create a project that showed my love for popular accoutrements worn in past decades.
Every year from the 1920's to the 1980's was such an intriguing and inspiring time for the world of fashion. Styles were chopping and changing left right and centre, giving me a firm base for my chosen title 'How have past fashion styles come back in today's current trends?'
I chose to complete a magazine double page article and a fashion editorial based around 4 different pictures of fashion icons from the 1930's, 40's, 50's and 60's wearing the very much loved, monochrome trend.
After completing my photo shoots, I have to say I was pleased with the outcome, as recreating iconic photographs from the past isn't the easiest task to undertake, however I am now sharing the final prints with you and the originals they are based off.
Let me know what you think in the comments!
Enjoy!

1930's - Carole Lombard

Skirt - Matalan

1940's - Rita Hayworth

I hope you enjoyed looking through my EPQ photographs.
Recreating these iconic photographs was extremely enjoyable and I have to say, I think they turned out pretty well! Thank you to my amazing friend for modelling for me!

Yves Saint Laurent - Style Is Eternal Exhibition

As a huge fan of any high fashion designer, I couldn't miss out on the opportunity to visit one of the most influential designer's exhibitions this October.
The Bowes Museum and Fondation Pierre BergĂ© - Yves Saint Laurent collaborated to create Yves Saint Laurent Style Is Eternal, the first exhibition in the UK to show a comprehensive selection of the French designer's work and I have to say it was pretty impressive.
After the first initial disappointment of only seeing 5 of his designs, the 2 sided exhibition turned my feelings upside down, by displaying a wide range of his most wacky but also most sophisticated creations, cleverly put together over the course of his extremely successful career in the 'fashion spotlight'.
I couldn't help myself but take photo after photo, and my camera is now full of fabulous fashion, designed by the inspiration that is, Yves Saint Laurent.
(Prepare for the overload of photographs)
Enjoy!

What Fashion Means To Me

Fashion can be interpreted in a number of different ways. What you wear and how you wear it isn't just an everyday, get up and get dressed routine, it defines who you are as a person, shapes your personality, and becomes a part of your life that is so important, that without even realising, you are paying much more attention to what you wear everyday than you think.
...
For all those get up and go, early birds, full of energy in the morning, I commend you. Having the motivation to open my eyes, wiggle my way out of bed (which seems way more comfy than it did the night before) and start my day is something I definitely struggle with. But the one aspect of my morning routine that truly makes me want to start my day is the idea of opening up the door to my wardrobe, browsing the sea of fabric on each and every hanger and carefully choosing my attire for the day ahead.
What I choose to wear in the morning is a picture of who I am as a person, what my personality is and reflects my mood every single day. My indecisive side wants me to change outfit combinations constantly. That doesn't go, it's too cold to wear that, am I too casual, or am I trying to hard? The questions go on and honestly, questions are what makes fashion the amazing phenomenon it is today.
...
I find myself constantly picking up new trends, whether they are from magazines, celebrities, high street stores or friends, I know that a new style is always around the corner, and I love it! The idea of fashion evolving over time, becoming different in the future, or bringing back styles from the past is such an overwhelming yet so exciting phenomenon and that is why it is inspiring so many people around the world to let their minds step into the craze and discover the ever changing world of the fashion industry.
...
Photography, journalism, styling, designing, selling, promoting. The list goes on for the vast amount of ways in which fashion is changing the world and the way we think. Every single day, the fashion industry are influencing so many people to achieve their dreams whether that is working within the fashion industry itself, or something completely different, fashion has a huge impact on how people live their lives. Sportswear or Office wear, Formal or Casual, Grunge or Girly. We may not always know it, but every style is influencing our day to day lives by shaping who we are as people. What we see in the shops, be it jeans, shoes, handbags or jewellery, makes us think about our mood and personality. We buy what we wear because we enjoy it, we are confident within ourselves when we wear it, we are who we want to be when we put on that piece of clothing or accessory, making the diverse range of individuals we see every day unique, all over the world.
...
Fashion has changed the way we see everything. Fashion is art, business, personal and something everyone has a connection with, whether they know it or not.
It is all around us, we see it every day, and fashion is shaping people to be who they are today.
 ...
That is what it means to me, but..
What does fashion mean to you?

Little Black Dress

The little black dress is a staple piece in every girl's wardrobe, its so versatile and classy and can be worn to so many events!
...
I recently attended a party and I picked up this number in River Island for £35 and I LOVE it!
The midi style is very in and looks perfect with a pair of heeled sandals with an ankle strap. The bodycon style paired with a draped neckline made me want to buy this dress instantly. The spaghetti straps finish of this dress beautifully and it will suit any figure perfectly!

...
I paired this dress with a pair of heels I picked up from Saints and Sinners for only £24.99!
The ankle strap slims and elongates your legs and the alligator print with the gold gives them a bit of detail, perfect for any outfit!

Hope you enjoyed reading! How do you style your little black dress?

Happy Easter! & A New Look For Megan's Style Diary!

Happy Easter everybody! I hope everyone has had a lovely Easter weekend, I definitely have! Just wanted to give you all another quick update (sorry its nothing special) to let you know what has been happening with my blog! I am currently working on several posts that will be uploaded very soon so that is to look forward to! But for now I just wanted to let you know what has been happening! Enjoy!
...
So if you didn't already know, I have been searching for a new template for my blog for quite a while now and it was proving to be much harder than I originally thought it would be! Choosing a template hasn't been the problem, editing it however has not been so easy and since I go for the free templates, I have found it quite difficult! Why do they have to come with annoying little extras that you just can't get rid of!?
...
BUT I think I have finally found the template for me! I stumbled across the template I have now about a week ago and I have to say I am really liking it!
I love the way my most recent blog posts are shown on the homepage in a grid layout, making it so much easier to navigate around and see what I have uploaded. I hope this makes it a lot more pleasurable for everyone reading and a lot easier to find what you are looking for!
 ...
Editing has been a dream up to now and I am hoping it will stay this way because I think this template is perfect for what I want my blog to look like!
The colours are neutral and sophisticated, the layout is easy to navigate and I really think my blog looks so much better than it did when I first started out!

Just a little update about my blog, boring I know, but I do like to keep you updated, since random changes have been quite regular up until now!
If you like my new template and fancy trying it out for your own blog or website click here

Let me know what you think about my new layout in the comments! I would love to know what you think and any feedback on how to make 'Megan's Style Diary' even better for my readers is more than welcome!

Thank You for reading!

Little Mix All About The Eyes Eye Shadow Palette by Collection Review!

I was in desperate need of a new eye shadow palette and when I stumbled upon this the other day in boots, I had to have it! This is an amazing product for people who don't want to spend ridiculous amounts, so it is perfect for a reluctant spender like me! At only £2.99 its a steal and I have to say it is such an amazing quality eye shadow for the price!
...
I am a massive fan of the smoky eye and all things brown, gold and black when it comes to my eye shadow colours. However I am so fussy about the product and as a result it takes me FOREVER to choose the one I want! But this is, I have to say, perfect for me! With just the right amount of shimmer and pigment, this makes my makeup look so much better!
...
The palette comes with 6 colours and they are all so beautiful! They are neutral shades of light to dark and the colours are gorgeous when blended!

This is the look that I wear with this palette using 4 of the six colours. All over the lid I applied the shimmery gold third from the left called Golden Sand. I then took the darkest brown called Cocoa Dream and blended it from the outside corner inwards and into the crease. I then took the black called Blackbird and lined my upper lash line and then Cocoa Dream again to line my lower lash line. Finally I lined my water line and the inner corners of my eye with the cream colour called Feather to brighten my eyes. Mascara pulls the whole look together to finish off!
I am really loving this eye shadow palette and the price just makes it even better! This is perfect for creating an everyday or night time makeup look, therefore it is so versatile for any person!
I definitely recommend this product to everyone looking for an eye shadow palette but not looking to break the bank! I'll be purchasing this again without a doubt! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
...
I hope you enjoyed reading and I would love to know what you guys think of this makeup look in the comments below!
...
Just to finish off, I would like to give my friend Lauren's blog a mention! She has recently started her fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog called 'The Naked Minimalist' and I definitely think it is worth the read! So go and check it out and give her big welcome to the blogger community here!

Thank you for reading!
